After having some french-press coffee with Chris, and he biked off to work, I started to get ready for my last internship interview with www.dogvacay.com
The building it is housed in is prime location right by the beach.
It's in an "incubator" style office--lots of start-up companies that are all venture backed in a huge, open room with tons of computers, with a back area for the venture capitalists (the CEO of Myspace, being one).
The start-ups prove that they can survive and thrive in the local market, and if they can, they get more backing to spread out over the US.
I love this company, and believe in what they are doing and believe it can be really successful, so I'm really hoping they take me on as an intern. It pays pretty good, and I was told my position could become salaried as the company grows.
My interview was awesome--everyone seemed to like me and my background, and as I was leaving they called me and asked me to come back so I could have a quick chat with the main person starting up Dog Vacay. That went well also!
I should hear back early next week.
Only problem is that this one (and almost all the others) have asked if I had a laptop to work on. They all use Macs, and prefer Macs, and considering that would be a $1200 minimum investment....I'm not so sure what to do yet.
Wish me luck!

One more thought--Lots of blogging today!
I consider myself to be a very motivated and driven person.
My main motivation (sort of unfortunately!) has always been money. I'll work my butt of to prove that I'm the best there is when money is involved.
Internships out in LA are tough in that most of them are not paid. The paid ones are very competitive and hard to get. I'm competing with talented and intelligent students from UCLA, and other expensive and/or private schools in the greater LA area.
Previous unpaid internships I've taken have been flukes of sorts. I don't work hard, they don't really work out, and I'm not interested.
So starting today, I have a new motto for my internships: Opportunity. Sure, I may not be paid. But I am gaining opportunity and experience. A free chance to learn. A free chance to succeed. I will work as hard as I can, paid or unpaid to prove that I am competent and talented. If I'm an asset to a company, they will want me there, and who knows what that company will do to keep me.
My new outlook begins now, and I'm going to make sure my time in LA is well spent!

Today I start my internship at VOaudio, a start-up company located in Santa Monica that is trying to make podcasts accessible, social, and fun to share.
Kind of like Youtube for videos, or Spotify for music.
They have no launched yet, and I am going in to help them out with things around their office, and work on their website.
Then, at 5pm, I'm interviewing with Global Animal, an animal news website.
Tomorrow at 1pm, I interview for DogVacay.com, a site that helps dog owners find other dog owners help care for their dogs.
So far, all the internships are unpaid, except dogvacay.com
Miso Update: Sleeping under the comforter quietly.
Ada Update: At work with Chris, probably sleeping like she always is.
This is my first entry of my California blog. This blog will highlight my experiences while out in LA. To give some background, I'm a native Texan--born, raised, and always lived in Texas (primarily greater Austin area).
I came out to LA to be with my boyfriend, intern, gain experience, and see a different kind of life than what I'm used to in Austin.
So far, I've been out here 5 days.
Keep up with the blog to find out what I'm doing, where I'm interning, and how life is--Sunny Side Up!
